The Opportunity
Kalyra Communities is an aged care provider with multiple locations across Adelaide.
Following the introduction of the new Aged Care Quality Standards, Kalyra’s Trustees wanted feedback on how it was performing from its most important stakeholders – those they care for and their families.
We conducted workshops with a range of participants including Kalyra Communities’ Trustees and Directors who had the opportunity to hear first-hand the experiences of residents, families and significant others. Invitees included:
- Clients of home care services within aged care facilities
- Home owners utilising Kalyra’s home care services
- Residents at aged care homes
Our Approach
We crafted and facilitated two workshops centred around the new Aged Care Quality Standards. These were held back-to-back at a central location offsite.
Our workshop approach included:
- World-café (group discussion) style set up with participants seated at round tables with a Trustee or Director who also acted as a table facilitator
- Each table facilitator represented a standard, discussing and capturing the direct feedback from participants and building on it as they moved from table to table
- The feedback was derived through a series of individual and group questions to capture genuine feedback based on each of the Quality Standards, while remaining fun for participants. It included Have Your Say Bingo, multiple choice questions, World Café (group discussion) and a one-word closing exercise
- We also designed a series of branded workshop materials including posters, table booklets, workbooks and signage
The Outcome
The workshops resulted in:
- Feedback from 26 participants, with overwhelmingly positive comments
- Participants expressing that they felt valued, especially being heard directly by the Trustees and Directors
- A benchmark for Kalyra’s future engagement program with more regular sessions planned
Feedback from participants included:
“It was such a great meeting – an excellent event. Facilitator was excellent, obviously experienced. I left feeling on cloud nine. I was expecting to be sitting in a hall with the important people sitting on a stage.”
“I see it as part of mum’s care to go and be informed. I felt wonderful afterward. It was a great process.”
“I talked my head off – I had a ball. Facilitators at the table did an excellent job.”
