The Opportunity
COTA SA is the peak body promoting the rights, needs and interests of older South Australians.
In early 2015, COTA SA approached communikate et al to build its profile through publicity and media relations among existing and potential members and decision makers in government, private industry and consumer/advocacy groups.
As our relationship grew, they also needed us to:
- Manage state election and state budget media campaigns to influence decision making within State Government
- Rebrand COTA SA’s annual Every Generation Festival (rebadged as ZestFest) to gain broader appeal
- Develop a brand strategy and create the design assets for The Plug-in, a people-powered movement realising the opportunities of modern ageing
- Create a new brand identity for COTA SA’s successful strength training program, Strength for Life
Our Approach
To build COTA SA’s profile we worked with them to define clear and consistent messaging and establish strong relationships with key media and government representatives.
In developing a brand for ZestFest and The Plug-in, in addition to ongoing design and communications for COTA SA as a whole, our work included:
- Brand workshop facilitation
- Key message development and copywriting
- Art direction and photography
- Explainer video development (The Plug-in)
- Collateral, signage, digital and promotional items design
- Social media
- Publicity
We were also engaged by COTA Federation to conceptualise and develop a powerful video as part of a grant submission.
The Outcome
Since beginning our work, COTA SA has experienced:
- An impressive and sustained presence on the South Australian media landscape
- An invigorated brand in the South Australian market, including overwhelmingly positive responses to ZestFest and The Plug-in
- A strong voice in conjunction with older South Australians
- Their Chief Executive now considered a “go to” authority on issues relating to older people
- Successfully influencing policy as the key advocate for the health, wellbeing and lives of older South Australians
Our media coverage – in excess of 250 stories to date – has exposed COTA SA to the general public, older South Australians and key decision makers throughout the state.
