The Opportunity
Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) is one of the largest gas infrastructure businesses in Australia, delivering gas to more than two million Australian homes and businesses.
The AGIG Strategy & Innovation team appointed communikate et al to develop a stakeholder and community engagement strategy to support one of its most significant business projects, Hydrogen Park SA (HyP SA), while also providing marketing communications support to the business more broadly.
For HyP SA we needed to mitigate the perceived risks of using hydrogen gas, to pave the way for future projects around the country that will contribute to lowering carbon emissions.
More broadly, we needed to use the existing brand guide to develop a fresh creative execution for corporate publications and collaterals, ensuring they reflected AGIG’s values of Perform, Trust, Respect and One Team.
Our Approach
For HyP SA our approach included:
- Conducting a detailed stakeholder risk assessment to identify risks and opportunities
- Developing a comprehensive stakeholder and community engagement strategy to mitigate risk and maximise opportunity for AGIG to develop wider scale renewable hydrogen production in regional and metropolitan areas into the future
- Providing ongoing stakeholder engagement advice to address developments as the project moves into the design and construct phase
- Developing key messaging about the project and its goals to reflect the diverse needs of stakeholders and community
- Developing a brand specific to the project and collateral including fact sheets, presentations, infographics and brochures and signage for the facility to educate and inform stakeholders and community members
- Facilitating focus group research to test responses to proposed messaging
- Ongoing engagement with the community through regular updates (letterbox drop), email newsletters, events and advertising
- Event management for the sod turning and Australian Hydrogen Centre announcements and the launch itself with key stakeholders and media
- Development of the community engagement section of the Learnings Report for the Australian Hydrogen Centre which included focus groups and surveys around the engagement at key milestones
- Content – video and photography to capture milestone events as well as key explainer videos of the facility
We have since supported HyP Gladstone and HyP Murray Valley.
To support the Strategy & Innovation team, Corporate and Stakeholder teams, our approach has included:
- Concepting, designing and managing the production of the annual ESG Report
- Overhauling the internal newsletter “In the Pipeline” with a new approach, structure and design
- Design of a series of collateral and digital design assets for AGN, MGN (SA & VIC) and DBP (WA) Customer and Stakeholder Engagement program
- Developing the ‘Gas Matters’ branding for the customer and stakeholder engagement platform
- Animation and videoproduction for explainer videos, stakeholder events and annual report summaries
- Designing the draft and final engagement plans and fact sheets for the regulation teams
- Developing websites and web content for AGIG and AGN
- Undertaking a corporate brand review which included a refresh of key templates and design assets and a new comprehensive style guide and staff handbook
- Supporting AGN’s partnership with MasterChef Australia 2024
The Outcome
communikate et al has assisted the Strategy & Innovation team in navigating the maze of risks associated with the HyP SA project and continue to provide support ahead of its further expansion and its other hydrogen facilities to be developed in Gladstone and Albury Wodonga.
We have also become the Brand Ambassador for AGIG and its brands by managing key brand assets and presenting a fresh, elevated and dynamic new look for a range of corporate collaterals for internal and external use.
Our work has grown into supporting the Innovation and Stakeholder Engagement team ongoing with a variety of wider corporate communications pieces, and a client who values our partnership.
