communikate et al has a longstanding relationship with Starlight Children’s Foundation and has provided communications support for a number of the charity’s campaigns over the years.

Most recently, communikate et al partnered with Starlight to assist with the launch of South Australia’s first Starlight Express Room (SER) – a medical-free haven for seriously ill children and their families at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Due to a reduced public presence during the Global Financial Crisis, Starlight was eager to reconnect with the South Australian public, increase awareness of the SER and highlight the room’s need for ongoing financial support.

communikate et al provided overarching communications support in the lead-up to the SER launch, including negotiating year-long media partnerships with Network Ten and FIVEaa on Starlight’s behalf and securing high profile ambassadors, Amanda Blair and Belinda Heggen. communikate et al also provided recommendations around the structure of the launch event which featured a number of high profile guests and dignitaries.

A strategic publicity campaign helped boost public awareness of Starlight in South Australia and built anticipation ahead of the launch of the SER. A media blackout of the SER in the lead-up to the launch ensured a solid media presence on the day, with print, television and radio journalists from more than five different media outlets attending.

The result was overwhelming with an average of eight stories per month appearing during the six month project period – 28 of which were specific to the launch event in April 2011, including evening news coverage on Network 10 and Channel Nine News.
