I sometimes call my husband ‘Goldy’, short for goldfish, as he has an attention span not too dissimilar to one….. very short. Nine seconds to be precise for our fishy little friends while us humans’ attention span is eight seconds. That’s right, less than the fish (I’d better rethink hubby’s nickname)!
Couple these stats with the fact we are having more and more information thrown at us from every which direction and no wonder so many organisations are struggling to actually connect with their online audiences.
On a page of 111 words or less apparently only 59 per cent of them will be read, so if I still have your attention, please remember this
Keep
It
Simple (& short)
Stupid
Forget the fluff, use some pretty pictures to help tell your story (and keep those goldfish attentive) and get to the point quickly.
If you have any trouble remembering how long that window is to capture your reader’s attention, just think of Luke Perry’s career defining bull riding film – 8 Seconds – that’s all you’ve got partner!
